Special Meeting on 2/27!

From board member, Chuck Eckberg:

A special association meeting will be held this coming Monday, February 27 at 7 PM at the Eagle Valley golf course clubhouse. Notification of this meeting was mailed to your home a couple of weeks ago. The sole purpose of this meeting is to elect two board members.

For those of you who attended the annual meeting in December, the need for new elections may have come as a surprise, since elections were already held, within a generally cooperative and harmonious atmosphere, at the annual meeting. I’ve attached the Meeting Letter, Agenda, Resume for 2_27_2012 Meeting and Proxy for 2_27_2012 Meeting that everyone received which explains why new elections will be held.

I’m sending this e-mail to ask you to do one of two things. First please consider attending the meeting Monday night, in in order to run as a candidate and to vote. The meeting will last, at the most, thirty minutes. If your attendance is not possible, please sign and return the attached proxy to me or to Durand and Associates, if you have not already done so. We must have a quorum in order to have an election so we can proceed with neighborhood business.

Jeff Heinrich, who was elected in December, plans to run again. Bill Thom, who was elected in December, has decided not to. Please consider running for a position on the board. I realize on the face of things it looks like a thankless job, and yes, sometimes it seems to be. But I strongly believe that as the year progresses you’ll experience having an Association board which serves all residents here.

Updated emails

We’ve updated the email addresses for our 2012 Board members and Architectural Control Committee members on our About page. Bear in mind that for ACC review forms, and other association business, your first point of contact should be with the association’s management company, Durand & Associates.

Welcome new board members!

Thanks to everyone who attended tonight’s Eagle Valley Owners Association annual meeting. Congratulations to Chuck Eckberg, who was re-elected for the open 3 year position on the board, and to those who put their names into nomination to fill the remaining terms due to recent resignations: Jeff Heinrich, who was elected to fill the open two-year term; and Bill Thom, who was elected to fill the open one-year term. We also heard from Paul Hornby, chair of the Architectural Control Committee, and we also heard from the committee formed to review proposals from different property management companies. The new board will be looking at the committee’s proposals and meeting with three potential candidates for our 2012 property management contract. Our current management company, Durand & Associates, is one of the companies being considered for the contract.

Starting in 2012, there will be a community review process of our current rules and regulations, to determine if they fit the way we wish to live in Eagle Valley now and going forward.  Watch for more news soon.

If you were at the annual meeting, feel free to add your comments about the meeting discussion.

Revised Agenda for EVOA Annual Meeting

Homeowners should have received a revised agenda for the December 5, 2011 Annual Meeting, noting elections to fill two board positions that are open due to recent resignations. Please consider nominating yourself or someone you think would be a good representative of the neighborhood to fill those open positions.  Nominations can be made in advance and at the Annual Meeting. Please plan on attending or be sure to give your proxy to a neighbor who will be there.

Annual EVOA Meeting

Just a reminder that the annual meeting of the Eagle Valley Owner’s Association will be held on Monday, December 5, 2011 at 7 pm. at Eagle Valley Golf Course Clubhouse, 2600 Double Eagle Lane, Woodbury 55129. Registration will begin at 6:15 pm.

Besides review the budget, the members will be electing our Board of Directors. Chuck Eckberg is seeking re-election to the board. If you’re interested in nominating an owner (including yourself), you can find a nomination form as part of your owner mailing.

It is very important that there be a quorum at the meeting, either through attendance or through proxy. You can find copies of the annual meeting mailing here as well as through the Durand & Associates web site for the Eagle Valley neighborhood.

October Board Meeting

The next meeting of the Eagle Valley Owners Association is on Wednesday, October 26 at 6 pm at Interior Care and Construction (behind the new SuperTarget), 451 Commerce Drive, Woodbury, MN 55129

As part of the meeting agenda, the management review committee will make a recommendation for our next management company contract.

Please plan to come or contact our board members with questions or concerns.

7/13 Board meeting

Back story:

In 2003, the 3-member Eagle Valley Board created and approved (as our bylaws do allow them to do) the current Architechtural Control Committee rules with no community input. When homeowners contacted the board in 2003 to object to these rules, those objections were ignored. Since then, the association has never had a truly open discussion about the ACC rules under which we all reside. Now, the board is about to further codify those rules again, with no comprehensive homeowner input, this time with more “teeth” and enforcement requirements. If you think that 2 (or 4) people should not get to make these decisions without some broader community conversation with the 501 households of Eagle Valley, then do your best to get to this board meeting. Our board only needs a simple majority (2 out of 3 members!) to make these decisions for 501 households.

Updates from the Annual Meeting

It has taken me a little while, but here are some of the things that I thought were valuable to learn at the 12/2/2010 Annual homeowners’ meeting.

  • Tom Laska was reelected to serve for another 3 year term on our board
  • There is a small group of neighbors that are meeting to review proposals from management companies. Currently, we use Durand & Associates, but this year, the board has asked three residents to help review proposals from Durand and other property management companies.
  • The board has spent a great deal of time (and money) to work on legal issues regarding our bylaws, architectural control, rules & regulations, and who can enforce what. The Architectural Control Committee has greater latitude for enforcement of the association rules & regulations under the developed changes.
  • The “Talkin’ Trash” committee is officially dissolved. There was still some interest in pursuing some kind of preferred hauler system, but not enough volunteer time to pull any kind of RFP or additional proposal together. If anyone is interested in pursuing this, contact the board.
  • There seems to be significant interest in forming a formal or informal Neighborhood Watch group. Names were collected of those interested. If you weren’t at the meeting, but are interested in being part of a neighborhood watch group in Eagle Valley, please contact the board.

Those were my “take-aways.” Feel free to add comments to contribute your thoughts.

Annual Meeting on 12/2!

The annual homeowners meeting is on Thursday, December 2. You should have received a packet in the mail with an agenda, proxy form, and minutes from last year’s meeting along with other goodies. Please come or sign your proxy and give it to a neighbor who will attend.

See you there!

Neighborhood Watch?

September 9 has come and gone as a tentative date for a neighborhood watch meeting. According to EVHA president Chuck Eckberg, the meeting is postponed indefinitely, although it may come forward as an agenda item for the annual homeowners’ meeting.
