Referendum Fund Balance Task Force Survey

From News from District 833:

Referendum Fund Balance Task Force to begin
The district is preparing for the work of the Referendum Fund Balance Task Force and is seeking input from the community on suggestions for the potential use of the 2006 Bond Referendum Fund Balance of approximately $5 million.

Background:  In September of 2006 voters approved a multi-question bond referendum providing the school district with $149 million to complete a number of construction projects. The projects are now 95% complete and administration is projecting that a $5 million fund balance will remain upon completion of all projects in September of 2010. The district benefitted from the unfortunate economic climate and competitive bidding industry and came in under the projected project budgets. A task force is being formed that will review the status of the funds and how to best utilize the remaining bond proceeds.

NOTE that school districts can use the bond proceeds for acquisition and betterment of school sites and facilities (for example, additions, repairs, furniture, equipment and technology). The proceeds are not used for general operating expenses (for example salaries, supplies and utilities).
