New board members

The special meeting was held and minutes are posted on the governing documents & forms page here. But the short of it is that Jeff Heinrich was (re) elected to the board to fill out the remaining 2 year term and Cynthia Hable was elected to fill out the remaining 1 year term.

Downloadable E-Books Coming

Joining Hennepin and Dakota County Library, the Washington County Library system will soon have downloadable ebooks available for patrons.

From the Washington County Board of Commissioners January 18th Actions:

Library will have digital books with contract
The Washington County Library will be able to offer digital books after the Washington County Board of Commissioners ratified a contract Jan. 18 with a Cleveland, Ohio, company.
The contract allows the library to purchase licensing for library materials in digital format for four years at a cost of $15,000 annually.
Under the terms of the contract, OverDrive will provide Washington County Library and its customers access to digital content purchased by the Washington County Library. The digital content will be accessed through a website that is provided, created, and maintained by OverDrive, but will look like a Washington County website. At the time of launch only eBooks (digital forms of written content) will be available, but over time this content could be expanded to audiobook and music titles.
Washington County Library will be purchasing titles that mirror the physical book titles in the current library collection. The eBooks can be read on a large number of electronic reading devices and checked out for a period of one, two, or three weeks. The OverDrive digital service reflects the physical Washington County Library’s policies in place.
